NIMBLER introduces 4 new internship programs. Read more about our approach to Internships.

NIMBLER has introduced 4 new internship programs aimed at providing opportunities to young people in the marketing industry.

“We get at least two applications a week from people looking for an internship in the marketing industry, often unpaid just looking for experience,” says Jeffrey de Visser, Director of the Digital division at NIMBLER Group. “We decided we had to do something to provide young people with the experience they needed…”

As a result, NIMBLER Group has introduced an internship programme that puts young minds in a working environment, allowing them to get used to a high-pressure agency environment, develop their skills and gain experience in their field. Currently, there are four interns in the programme: Siphiwe is a developer, Lungelo and Vusimuzi are graphic designers, and Kamohelo studied business and is now being trained to implement cloud-based business technologies.

Kego Maake, a past internship participant and now Director at NIMBLER Creative, says: “I came in as an intern from TUT about a year ago for a 6-week internship. They wanted to set up a design studio within the group, and after continuing working for NIMBLER for a few months, they created the new division, gave me a stake and made the unit my sole responsibility. It has all been a crazy rollercoaster, but it has provided me with opportunities I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere else.”

Jeffrey continues, “Marketing Education lacks enormously in this country. With a possible exception for some of the better universities, students are taught things the way they were done almost a decade ago when I first started. They need that foundation, but it’s up to the marketing sector to train young people in today’s standards, while also equipping them with marketable skills that will make them employable in this highly competitive market. That’s what this programme is all about.”

Thabang Makhanya, a past intern and now in charge of the online marketing division called NIMBLER Search, says: “We have an awesome office, and the work environment is very laid-back, with a lot of focus on personal responsibility. I came in two years ago as an ambitious young man trying to find his way, and today I’ve got my division, and I’m incredibly passionate about what I do.”

Anyone with relevant education can apply for the programme, which is at least two months. NIMBLER covers travel expenses and provides interns with guidance, training and supervision. When interns leave, they get a letter of reference and NIMBLER tries to place them within the group or with one of their partners for freelance or permanent employment.
